My Ethics Code
Truth
I will report the truth and only the truth no matter who it benefits or damages. When reporting, the most important thing is to give readers a complete understanding of every situation. Being truthful is the only way to provide the public with the information that they have a right to.
Credit
When it comes to content, credit is a necessity. Whether it be a photo that was taken by a photographer in a newsroom or a statistic pulled from a record, it is vital to credit the original source. Giving due credit not only makes your content more credible, but it makes you a more credible journalist.
Responsibility
There are many responsibilities as a journalist, but one stands above all else: serve the general public. I will report on the important stories that have an impact on the public. I will also give insight into how situations will affect people both in good and bad ways.
Work Ethic
I will work hard to get every possible side to the story and I will not stop until I do. Getting sources to fully understand a situation can be difficult at times, but I will find a way. Always.
Diversity
I will be sure to include underrepresented groups in my stories. I will not discriminate based on ethnicity, gender, religion or any other factor. The news does not tell the story of the world if it does not tell the stories of all of its people. That is something that I cannot allow as a journalist.
Teamwork
No matter whom I am teamed up with, I will work to get the job done and done well. I will make my coworkers comfortable working with me so we can do the job in the best way possible. Regardless of my relationship with my coworkers I will put my journalistic values first when writing a story.
